The Life of the Plant – what we need to know

The original intent of this project was to track the life of trees for a fruit and nut orchard that I plan to start. I also grow a garden and have had thoughts of growing enough to sell a little. I’m a watcher of several Market Gardeners on youtube and a member of a growers discussion forum. Many people make use of technology to help with their operation whether it be a spreadsheet or grower’s software.

I looked at several and tried a few existing growing apps but none seem to fit the bill.  I don’t need a database of every plant in existence or a library of how to grow info that may not apply to my insane Ozarks hill country microclimate. I just need to record Data and look at it, possibly in some useful ways; combined data views. So the need was to have a system that creates my own database, library and with a history or journal of all I do. I’ve been an avid computer user since the late 90s and have built websites the whole time so I built FarmWP.

FarmWP is a Farm Data Management Web Application built with WordPress as the framework. It allows you to record growing Data.

In general, there are two different Views, the admin area where you can view every different Data type and edit them directly. That is built into WordPress. The other Views are via the Front End of the site and give you the above mentioned, combined data Views.

NOTE* “Front End” is what would normally be the public facing side of a WordPress site but the FarmWP Web App is private and not accessible to the public.
