Data Types
There three main data types, Assets, Events & Records.
Assets: Land, Parts of land, Structures & Equipment
Event: Plantings & Harvests
Records: Equipment Settings, Field Notes and Orchard Notes.
Lastly, there are Taxonomies, and they have a hierarchical structure. Plant Types, Tree Types and Plant Problems are taxonomies.
Content Types
Land (asset)
Structures (asset)
Equipment (asset)
Plantings (event)
Tree Plantings (event)
Harvests (event)
Field Notes (record)
Orchard Notes (record)
Equipment Settings (record)
NOTE: Not everyone will grow an Orchard so the basic FarmWP is for vegetable growers with the Tree related modules being optional.
Pages
Pages can mean Admin pages or Front End views.
Every Content Type has at least two pages in the admin area. All and Add New as in; All Plantings, Add New Planting and so on. All takes you to a listing of existing content and is generally used to find something to review, edit or delete.
Taxonomy
An example of an hierarchical Taxomony is:
Brassica (parent)
— Cauliflower(child)
Another example is:
8 Acre property (parent)
— Field 1 (child level 1)
—- Bed Block 3 (child level 2)
—— Bed 7 (child level 3)
Some taxonomies will relate to more than one content type. Cauliflower can relate to, Plantings, Field Notes & Equipment Settings. Brassica can too, but in a less specific way. ie, There is no seeder roller or plate setup that will do all things brassica.
The Data Entry Person
That’s you and how detailed you get is up to you. How you use the system is as well and might be completely different from someone else. While it is best to take your time on a PC/Tablet and add as much as possible, the system has been set up so that you don’t have to enter a bunch of data before you can start using FarmWP. On the Add New Planting page, you choose a Plant Type (family/variety) and if it doesn’t exist, you can add it on the fly. Same with Locations and Equipment Settings.
