Well, it’s WordPress with custom content created as Custom Post Types, Custom Fields and Custom Taxonomies. Anyone could build this if they had the knowledge and the knowledge is free because it’s all open source software. I’m not a programmer but have been using WordPress for over a decade as well as other open source website tech. Even before wordpress, I got web hosting and built my own websites using straight html, an old version of course.
My actual profession was building electric signs in Central Florida and quite a few of them were for Disney, Universal Studios and businesses in that area. Some were quite complex and took weeks to build. Blue Collar and WebDev tech are similar in the basic sense. You are taking a bunch of basic things to make something complex and useful.
I’m a home gardener and have grown a little something off and on for over a decade and I’m a prolific researcher. I’ve started to get more serious about growing and since I’m a fabricator, I built my own high tunnel frame.
Since I also love tech, I have sensors for Temp/Humidity, wind direction/speed and a rain gauge and all are on a computer network via Ethernet cables to an Ethernet switch with a tablet PC on the same network. I can log everything and set schedules for events. If temp is over 70 degrees, open the drop down tunnel sides and gable vents. If the irrigation pressure drops to near zero, turn off the pump because there’s probably a big leak. Eventually, I hope to have that data get pulled into a FarmWP instance and maybe even have it tie into Field Notes and Harvests data.
